Mountain View Hospital begins Total Joint Replacement Classes

Madras, Ore. — Mountain View Hospital will begin hosting free, monthly Total Joint Replacement classes beginning in February of 2012. Classes will offer information for individuals who are candidates for hip and knee replacement as well as members of the community who are interested in learning more about the procedure.

Mountain View Hospital recently added the capability to perform total hip and knee replacement surgeries through a partnership with orthopedic surgeon, Michael Caravelli, MD, of The Center in Bend. MVH has also opened an Orthopedic Care Clinic at Mountain View Medical & Surgical Associates. Through this clinic, patients are seen by an orthopedic PA as well as orthopedic surgeons to determine the best solution for care. This new program will allow Jefferson County residents to receive total joint care without the inconvenience of traveling far from home.

Total Joint Replacement classes will educate participants on how to prepare for the surgery as well as what to expect during their stay and during recovery. The class is taught by a team of nurses, physical therapists, and other clinical staff who actually provide the care for total joint replacement patients at Mountain View.

"Joint replacement is no doubt a serious procedure," Jeanie Gentry, CEO, said. "Our goal is to allow our community to learn about the procedure from the people who will actually care for them. It's important that you feel comfortable about the care you receive. And we value that tremendously." Classes will be held on the first Wednesday of the month at 3:00 pm and on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:00 pm. For questions or to register for a Total Joint Replacement class, call 541-460-4039.
