About Madras

A community of 6,600 people located in the heart of Central Oregon, Madras is 45 minutes from Bend (population 80,995) and less than a two-hour drive from Portland. Madras has its own city-county airport and is only 30 minutes from the Redmond Municipal Airport, with direct flights to Portland and San Francisco serviced by United Express and Horizon Air.

From 2000 to 2008, Jefferson County's population grew by more than 18%, more than twice the national average. It was the third fastest growing county in Oregon, following neighboring Deschutes and Crook counties. Population and employment growth is expected to be among the fastest in Oregon over the next decade, partly because of available land, infrastructure and housing that is some of the most affordable in the tri-county area.*

Madras boasts a thriving business community. Mountain View Hospital is the 5th largest employer in Jefferson County, employing more than 250 caregivers. For information about local businesses, visit the Madras-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce website or call (541) 475-2350.

The hospital's healthy community mission is backed by local partners like the Madras Aquatic Center, providing a wealth of recreational family programs and a safe place for people of all ages to be active.

Madras is one of the most culturally diverse communities in the state. The Warm Springs Indian Reservation to the northwest of Madras offers an educational experience at The Museum at Warm Springs as well as entertainment at the Kah-Nee-Ta Resort and its gaming center, Indian Head Casino.

Did we forget to tell you? Madras provides dramatic mountain views of the Cascades, 300 days of sunshine a year, and a haven for outdoor recreation enthusiasts with easy access to three wilderness areas, wild and scenic rivers, ski resorts, golf courses, lakes, state parks, and unbelievable geological features that create natural playgrounds.
